British Association of Cardiac Rehabilitation

British Association of Cardiac Rehabilitation commonly known as BACR is the multi-disciplinary organizing body which represents and serves the interests of all professionals who are involved with cardiac rehabilitation directly or indirectly. There are diverse members related to cardiac rehabilitation such as nurses, phase IV instructors, general practitioners, exercise physiologists, special cardiologist physicians, special cardiologist surgeons, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, psychologists and academics etc. Founded in 1993, the association is also an affiliated group member of the British Cardiovascular Society. Similar to the British Association there is American Association for Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation for the people of USA.

The idea of the association came up with many aims in mind. Some of them are follows:

  • Promoting the philosophy and practice of cardiac rehabilitation throughout the world
  • Developing an professional training system and educational program for new, existing and upcoming rehabilitation practitioners
  • To spread the new discoveries in the field in front of professionals from around the globe which in turn can help the patients
  • Producing national guidelines for cardiac rehabilitation
  • Improving safety and standards of rehabilitation programs throughout the United Kingdom
  • To act as a resource center which holds a national register and information on regional groups
  • To produce BACR newsletters every quarterly as a use of communication means and resource tool for all the members of the organization
  • Working towards the overall improvement of the Cardiac Rehabilitation Process

The British Association of Cardiac Rehabilitation also offers some cardiac rehabilitation related course. BACR's Education branch coordinates both the BACR Exercise Instructor Training course along with a range of short term and distance learning courses for health and exercise professionals who are involved in the cardiovascular rehabilitation and prevention.
