Cardiac Rehabilitation Equipment

Cardiac rehabilitation equipment are the different tools which are used in the procedure of cardiac rehabilitation for a heart patient. There are many different types of equipment which are used in the cardiac rehab. Right from the ECG machines which are used to gate the electrocardiograph of the heart, to the electronic walkers used in the process of cardiac exercises; the different equipment are essential.

These equipment play an important role in the whole process of rehabilitation. Almost all equipment are now days self monitoring. Some of the equipment and their usage have been listed below.

cardiac rehab equipment

  1. ECG Machine:

ECG is an abbreviation of the word Electrocardiograph. The ECG machine gives the trans thoracic interpretation of the pumping activity of the heart over time captured. These signals are externally recorded by skin electrodes. The trans thoracic interpretation is then converted to electrical signals and is displayed on a monitor in the form of a wave. This ECG equipment is unavoidable in the rehab process as this machine is used on almost every step of the rehabilitation and based on the ECG reports the doctors get an idea about the heart's condition and speed of recovery. The line of treatment and rehabilitation is decided according to these reports only.

  2. Cardiac Trade Mill:

As the name suggests, cardiac trade mills are the specialized machines which are used to do walking and running exercise for cardiac patients. There are special sensors attached to it, which measures the heart beat rate of the patient while walking. If the rate increases beyond the safe level the alarm starts ringing which immediately catches the attention of the trainers. Also there are special facilities available for emergency situation. These trade mills help the patient to gradually increase the capacity of his heart by gradually increasing the intensity of walking exercise.

  3. Weight Training Equipment:

Along with the cardio exercise, weight training exercise is also required to lower down the excess weight. Weight problems can lead to many complications in cardiac problems. Reducing excess weight and mainly excess fat can improve the overall performance of the body.

  4. Time Bound Equipment:

These machines are self monitory and time based machines i.e. the trainers can set the time clock for the exercise in this machine. Therefore the patient exactly does the advised quantity of exercise. As even slight higher exercise can lead to complications in the case of cardiac patients, these machines are nowadays preferred in all the rehab centers. Patients who are in the Phase 3 of their cardiac rehabilitation are allowed to handle these machines on their own.

  5. Cardiac Cycle:

This is a special type of mechanical cycle which is especially designed for the rehabilitation of cardiac patients. The paddles of this mechanical cycle are kept very much resistant free in the initial stages of the rehabilitation, this helps in increasing the pumping ability without giving much stress on the heart. The more emphasis is given on the number rotations of the axle in a minute. Also there is a facility that the paddle tension can be increased if required.

As mentioned above, there are many types of equipment such as sugar machine, blood pressure machine, mechanical cycle, cholesterol measuring machine, weight pulley etc. These different cardiac rehabilitation equipment contribute well in the whole process.
