Greenwood Wildlife Rehabilitation CenterSet among the rural backdrop between Longmont and Lyons, on Ute Hwy.66 is the Greenwood wildlife rehabilitation center. With a mission to rehabilitate and release the rehabilitated animals back in to suitable habitats, this wildlife rehabilitation center has truly come to the rescue of sick, injured and orphaned wildlife. Greenwood wildlife rehabilitation center is a non-profit organization committed towards well being of injured and orphaned wildlife of Colorado.
Established in 1982, this rehabilitation center is the brain child of a technician who worked at Boulder Humane Society, and wanted to have an individual separate center which provides wildlife rehabilitative services for Boulder. The center was originally named as "The Natalie Gneiser Wildlife rehabilitation Center" after a girl who was killed in a car accident while trying to rescue an injured animal on the road. In 1998 it was renamed to its present name "Greenwood wildlife rehabilitation center" after a raccoon that survived a fire and was first animal to be rescued at this center. The name was aptly adapted as green wood doesn't burn in fire. Currently the Greenwood wildlife rehabilitation center is located over an area of 5274 sq. ft and can house up to 50 patients. With its current capacity it is able to provide rehabilitative services to 2,200 animals from 135 different species yearly. All these make Greenwood wildlife rehabilitation center as the largest rehabilitation center of its kind in Colorado. As part of its effort to minimize the human wildlife contact, Greenwood wildlife rehabilitation center doesn't encourage tours or visitors at the facility. But, for all those enthusiasts who would like to contribute for noble cause, the center has two kinds of provisions. Get Involved Interested people can always get involved in supporting services by-
