There are various stages of treatment in Kentucky rehabilitation centers. The first phase of treatment includes letting the patient participate in a group therapy where he is taught smart ways to avoid addiction. During this method of treatment, it is advised by counselors to the family member of the patient to support the patient. Family members must support the patient with their caring and positive attitude so that the detoxification at the physiological level can work best.

The patient is asked to revisit the doctors at regular intervals so that he/she can be checked for his/her ability to stay without the drug. His self control and various other psychological factors are also judged. He enters the next stage, i.e. the counseling part where he is taught to develop healthy relationships and ways to lead a drug free life. He is also taught to have control over his negative emotions and ways to satisfy his requirements. This ability makes him control his nervous system and with the combined effect of all these factors, slowly he is brought back to normal ways.
