Alcohol is a tasteless, colorless liquid prepared by fermentation process. In this process yeast and wanter act on sugars from a fruit, vegetable, and grain. Alcohol becomes a collective term for a various types of alcoholic beverages, when it is discussed as a drug.

Effects of Alcohol Many of the alcohol drug is produced commercially and has their alcoholic content indication written over the packaging. It is the most widely used drug in the world and is responsible for large amount of health problems related to drug and deaths.

Many people think that alcohol is a stimulant drug, but it's not that case it is a depressant drug. It reduces the activity of central nervous system that means it slows down the messaging system of the body between brain and body. Different types of depressant drugs affect coordination and concentration and decrease the response time of a person to unexpected situations.

The depressant such as alcohol is taken in small quantities, cause people to lower their inhibitions and become relaxed. People feel more confident and behave in a extrospective manner. Large amount of depressant can cause unconsciousness and sometimes death.

Alcohol effects on reflexes and coordination that may be a major factor in accidents. Also alcohol is strongly linked to violence and anti social behavior.

Consumption of alcohol can lead to confusion, vomiting, aggression, unconsciousness, nausea and risk taking behavior. Long time use of alcohol lead to dependency and cause brain damage, liver damage, high blood pressure, shaking, and other health problems.

If the diet of the person is poor, this can cause problems to their health. Also there are other types of problems exists such as depression and relationship problems.

Other possible long-term effects include:

  • brain injury, confusion, loss of memory, hallucinations
  • weakness and loss of muscle tissue
  • cancer of the mouth, esophagus, throat, liver, lips
  • irregular pulse, high blood pressure, enlarged heart and changes in red blood cells
  • increased risk of lung infections
  • sweating, bruising and flushing of the skin
  • inflamed stomach bleeding, lining and stomach ulcers
  • tingling and loss of sensation in hands and feet
  • severe swelling of the liver, cirrhosis and hepatitis
  • inflamed pancreas
  • impotence, testicles shrinking and reduced and damage sperm in men
  • for women, greater risk of gynecological problems.
