Established in 1900, country's first specialty physical rehabilitation facility, Helen Hayes Rehabilitation Center located at West Haverstraw, New York, has served citizens for over a century now. Being the pioneer in field of specialty rehabilitation, Helen Hayes Hospital has excelled in providing rehabilitative care to patients who have suffered calamitous injuries or are suffering from disabling illnesses. It has helped them to regain their original or optimum performance levels.

Helen Hayes Rehabilitation Center is proud to be country's first free standing state-operated rehabilitation hospital in US. The hospital was founded by Dr. Newton Shaffer as a facility dedicated to services of physically disabled patients. It was named after famous actress Helen Hayes MacArthur in 1974, who played an instrumental role in the development of the hospital. She not only bestowed her name but also her legacy and enduring spirit towards the hospital support.

Helen Hayes Hospital is accredited by "Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities" (CARF) and by "The Joint Commission". The hospital is owned and operated by New York State Department of Health and is active member of "New York Presbyterian Healthcare System".

• Massage therapy services (are offered every Friday on free-for-service basis by a licensed massage therapist with priority for patients first and then families)
• Religious services, Pastoral care and the Chapel (religious services are available on prior request basis. Chapel is located off the atrium and is open at all times for patients and visitors)
• Telephones (local calls are on free to use basis, and cell phones are permitted in non-patient areas)
