The hospital was founded by Dr. Newton Shaffer as a facility dedicated to services of physically disabled patients. It was named after famous actress Helen Hayes MacArthur in 1974, who played an instrumental role in the development of the hospital.   • Telephones (local calls are on free to use basis, and cell phones are permitted in non-patient areas)
