Dept of Rehabilitative Services

As the name suggests, Dept of Rehabilitative Services is the department of the government which handles issues related to rehabilitative services. This department is set up for every state e.g. Virginia department of rehabilitative services, Oklahoma department of rehabilitative services, California department of rehabilitative services, Florida Department of Health And Rehabilitative Services, Mississippi department of rehabilitative services etc.

Though there is a different department for every state, the work responsibilities of all the departments are the same. These departments have to report to the state rehabilitation council. The responsibilities are defined by the central government of the country. All these departments have to perform duties as suggested by the center. These departments give many services to the people such as:

1. Disability Determination
2. Employment
3. Community Based Services
4. Assistive Technology
5. Devices and Equipment
6. Education

1. Disability Determination:

   In this service, the department helps the people of the state to determine if they have any kind of disability. If they found a disability the social workers there help them to understand the rehabilitation procedures for it. The department also provides information on different rehabilitation centers for the particular disability. If the patient is economically poor the department helps the patient to get a recommendation letter for the rehabilitation sponsorship. This letter proves instrumental in receiving the sponsorship.

2. Employment:

   If a person is physically disabled, he faces many problems in getting a job which he can perform. Hence the financial condition of the person cannot get better. This results in the lack of good therapy and rehabilitation. This vicious circle must be broken somewhere. The department helps to do just the same. It helps the disabled patients to get placed in organizations where, their physical disability does not keep them away from completing the task. There is a separate special sub department in every rehabilitative service department for these placements.

3. Community Based Services:

   The department administers many programs which support individuals with significant disabilities which are arranged in order to maximize the independence and employment and hence achieving their full inclusion into the society.

4. Assistive Technology:

   The department hosts different rehab conferences for the rehab centers in the state every year. This conference is arranged with the idea of exchanging new knowledge and researches. The experts guide the rehab representatives about the assistive technology and machines available for the rehab.

5. Devices and Equipment:

   The dept of rehabilitative services provides different devices, equipment and machines to the needy people at a low cost. This helps the people to improve their functional capabilities and hence become more and more independent.
   

6. Education:

   The department financially supports the schools for disabled children. For e.g. school for the mentally retarded children, school for blinds, school for deaf etc. This gives a chance to these students to get quality education.

Many disable people are now living a normal life with a better economical condition with the help of these dept of rehabilitative services.
