Vestibular Rehabilitation Course

Vestibular rehabilitation courses provide training to clinicians in the practical management of patients suffering from vestibular disorders. The courses provide training and guidance in anatomy and physiology, medical management, pathology, detailed examination and treatment skills.

Vestibular rehabilitation course description

The basic course for vestibular rehabilitation provides an overview of evidence based practice addressing vestibular related impairments in children and adults.

The course is organized in three units

  1. Anatomy and pathology of the vestibular system
  2. Evaluation of vestibular functioning
  3. Interventions for impairments related to vestibular dysfunction

Additional resources will also be provided. They include references within juried, peer reviewed journals, etc.

Vestibular rehabilitation course format

Interactive video based learning programs are designed for entrants to follow and understand lecture sequence, review portions, etc. that are complex.

The program is conducted in the following format:

  1. Theory based learning: There will be classes covering various aspects of the field and detailed explanation of the subject matter will be provided to each learner. The classes will conduct assessments for vestibular, sensory organization, visual motor, reflex integration, and motor development.

  2. Practical based learning: Practical classes are very important and students can apply their theory based knowledge into practical task. Practical classes are conducted to guide learner about the various aspects of vestibular disorders especially on the departments of care taking and providing exercises to the patients.

  3. Conferences and presentation: Conferences will be conducted where doctors, professionals and lectures will provide lectures on topics and other multi disciplinary perspective.

  4. Tests: Periodic tests will be conducted either on-line or centre based to guide students further and prepare them for the final exam of the course.

Course objective

  • Understand the basics of anatomy and physiology of the vestibular system.
  • Based on the patient history and bedside examination, identify the specific features of peripheral vestibular disorders, central vestibular disorders, and non vestibular dizziness.
  • Recognize the clinical presentation of common vestibular dysfunction.
  • Identify appropriate intervention for balance and vision impairments.
  • Identify evidence supporting vestibular rehabilitation in children and adults.
  • Prescribe rehabilitation programs.

After completion of the course therapists can

  • Accurately perform common vestibular and balance objective measures as part of routine clinical procedure.
  • Access and perform proper Canalith repositioning maneuvers for the various forms of BPPV.
  • Identify red flags and understand when to refer patient for further diagnostic testing.

Vestibular rehabilitation courses provide physical therapists, medical practitioners, and medical students, evidence based learning programs with the basic and intermediate tools. They will utilize this knowledge to provide help and care for persons with complaints of dizziness, disequilibrium, and other vestibular system malfunction.
