Vocational Rehab

Vocational rehabilitation (VR) is a set of services provided for the people with physical or mental disabilities to enable them to attain skills, attitude and resources, so as to get a job or keep one, after an injury or mental disorder.

Vocational Rehab

The vocational rehabilitation program helps the job seekers to build their work capacity and get a suitable job in order to avoid re-injury. The program is made so as to suit the individual needs of the seeker. Following are some of the requirements:

  • Vocational assessment is done to evaluate his/her skills and potentials, in order to find a suitable job for him/her.
  • Counseling is done for the same, so that they can overcome their hindrances.
  • Assessment is done for his/her functional and physical work capacity.
  • Counseling is done for the person to allow them to adjustment to their disability.
  • Fitness and work conditioning programs are carried on.
  • Supervised on-the-job training is given so that they know the technical know-how when they are really on the job. Sometimes a short vocational course is also given to instill confidence in him/her.
  • Confidence building or self esteem groups or individual sessions are taken.
  • Assessment for workplace suitability so that he/she can find the right kind of jobs for him/her self.

As each individuals needs are different, the program for vocational rehabilitation training may differ from one another. Thus the vocational rehabilitation programs offer the type of services according to the persons needs.

Services that are provided by the vocational rehab are:

  • Counseling
  • Vocational assessment and planning.
  • Work site job modification.
  • Work assessment.
  • Job readiness and work placement assistance.
  • Employability assessment.
  • Skill development.

Planning, individual vocational assessment and support are part of quality rehabilitation, which make the best use of the rehabilitation resources and increases the outcomes of worker employer. The aim of vocational rehab program is to assist clients return to work in time with safety.

Most vocational rehabilitation services are free for eligible applicants. The vocational rehabilitation is suitable if:

  • He/she is in the age group of 14 to 65.
  • He/she has a disability, injury or health condition that affects their ability to work or find a job.
  • He/she has a health condition wherein he/she can participate in the vocational rehabilitation program.
